rever sees rever

Howdy ladies and gents. Herewith, I have upgraded the mashyup project which now reflects more of how i want one to interact with these. I figured out a way to display them side by side so that…

1) they are viewable simultaneously without scrolling and

2) you can play them in any order simultaneously or not or play multiple combinations/versions (the viewer/blog reader is active participant in making mashup)

A little about this particular post. My good friend Matt Gray has been working with me on some mashup ideas and proposed using videos of backwards audio and video as material. He mentioned a movie from the 80s which I had never seen. Its called Top Secret and stars Val Kilmer. Matt mentioned a famous scene from the movie in a Swedish bookstore which was presented in reverse. The 1st video (on left) is how it was shown in the movie, the second (on right) is the result of someone reversing the scene to find out how they actually filmed the shot. Fascinating!

I hesitate to advise how you should view these video mashups. I suppose the implication is that they are to be viewed simultaneously and, indeed, i keep that in mind when organizing them for posting. In this case ( the above two vids), I do recommend seeing them together and separately.

Over the next few days, i will retroactively change the format of most or all of my previous mashup posts to this horizontal grid display. My hope is that it will enhance the entire project and make the interactive aspect of it clearer. I am also very excited because this format will allow other creative possibilities. For example, I plan to begin a series of exquisite corpse versions of youtube mashups so we can all collaborate! Fun times!

A side note: For the most part, I am not attempting to make remix style music with these. There are MUCH MUCH better examples of those types (amazing ones!!). I am just experimenting with found image and sound, trying to create a multi-sensorial texture, whatever that means.
